This has to be the most common blog title for the day on google. Anyways, after arriving at 9am yesterday and spending most of the day doing tourist type activities and hitting the bed early(jet lag), day one of OOW10 has arrived.
I woke up around 6am and jumped on the computer to see a lot of twitter activity with others who have been getting up early. On most days of Open World this will be a common time to get up as the days start around 8am, but on MySQL Sunday it doesn't get started until later. Check in begins at 10am and my first session is at 12:30pm, but I may be a late arrival, as the Steelers are playing and if I can find somewhere to watch them I might have to.
The one dilemma I have is what to take with me today. Last year, I wrote about having to use my Macbook the whole time becasue of a lack of a good smartphone. Well this year, that has all changed. I now have an iPhone, Macbook Pro and an iPad, but which one will win out? I think I am going to try and use the iPad and iPhone today and see how it goes.
My plan is to update this posting as the day goes on, but realistically that might not happen until tomorrow. However if you want real time info, please follow my tweets at http://twitter.com/gvwoods
update: As I mentioned above I did not think I was going to be able to complete this post yesterday, but I am here to do it now.
Day 1 was pretty exciting, I can say that I had two sessions scheduled for yesterday, but did not make it to either. First the Steelers were playing and the game was to close to leave and then my co-worker showed up right after the game and I walked around showing him everything he needed to know for the rest of the week.
We did attend the keynote from the Grand Ballroom at the Hilton. This was a great place to watch it from as we had great wifi, food and alcohol. I am sorry to say that this was the best part of the keynote. HP spoke for what seemed to be two hours and was EXTEMELY boring and I had no interest in it. Then came what everyone was waiting for, Larry. He started his session with a very cool video about the World Cup team. Then he started to talk about the new exalogic product. This looks to be cool, but he went into way to much detail. He lost most of the crowd including myself around 7:15pm and as I continued to monitor twitter, I am glad I didn't wait until it was over, they actually went 45 minutes past the end time.
Here begins a recurring theme, we finished the night at one of Oracle's parties. This year it was Octoberfest. Once again some great food, alcohol and entertainment.
That's all for day 1.
